Hand Held
The principle of the hand held solution is that at the start of the day the driver's workload or
manifest is downloaded from the host system to a hand held device. The typical device used for this is the
Symbol 8100 or 8137 pictured here.
During the course of the day the driver will complete start of shift information, arrival/departure
details from each collection/delivery point, quantities collected/delivered, vehicle check details,
breaks, fuel drawings etc. On their return to base the device would be slotted in to a cradle and all
the information downloaded to Enterprise Transport Management.
To complete the De-Brief process the operator need only review the details and discuss any
discrepancies with the driver.
If the preference is to have the system updated with information at the end of a drivers shift,
then the 8100 device can be used. If the requirement however is to receive the information in a real
time manner during each stage of the process, then the Symbol 8137 with its integrated GPRS
capability is an ideal fit.
